Those who enjoyed the sunny weather over the weekend to spruce up their homes will be glad they did this week.

Snow squalls, strong winds, and wintry conditions are on the horizon.

The beginning of the week is pretty calm, with some rain and mild temperatures on Monday and Tuesday.

In fact, on Tuesday, 570 News Radio Weather Specialist Denise Andreacchi predicts temperatures to stay around 8 C in Waterloo Region.

But don’t let that fool you, Andreacchi warned.

Starting Wednesday and continuing into Thursday, residents will need to bring out their shovels and snow brushes again.

“We are going to see a big weather pattern shift through southern Ontario, and that begins Wednesday night as temperatures start to drop, we see a chance of flurries, and then the winds are relentless into Thursday,” she said.

Environment Canada forecast for Kitchener-Waterloo issued Monday, November 24

Even though highs on Thursday and Friday will hover around freezing, Andreacchi expects it will feel much colder due to the wind.

“We are going to see snow squall activity and we’re expecting periods of snow and blowing snow here in Kitchener, with winds gusting near 60 km/hr.”

Winter officially kicks off on Sunday, Dec. 21.
