The OPP’s yearly Festive Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) campaign took place from Thursday, Nov. 20, 2025, to Thursday, Jan. 1, 2026, leading to a total of 766 arrests for impaired driving throughout the province. In a press release on Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2026, the OPP mentioned that their officers dedicated more than 20,000 hours and conducted over 11,000 Festive RIDE checkpoints across Ontario. As previously noted, more than 1,600 of those checkpoints were in the OPP East Region, covering a large part of eastern Ontario.

This campaign also resulted in suspending licenses for drivers who registered in the ‘warn range’ or fall into “Zero Tolerance driver classes,” including young drivers and commercial drivers as stated by the OPP. Out of those license suspensions totaling 150 cases, there were 28 – or about 18.66 percent – that occurred in the East Region.

“Motorists are reminded that the OPP conducts RIDE events throughout the year as part of its ongoing efforts to save lives on Ontario roads,” stated provincial police while reminding drivers about new impaired driving penalties effective from Thursday, Jan. 1, 2026.

“The OPP thanks all road users and citizens who reported suspected impaired drivers to police and did their part to keep roads safe over the holidays.”
