Joan Hall Smith, 95, of Windsor, Ontario, Canada, passed away peacefully on October 6, 2025. Joan was born on July 23, 1929, to Albert Wilmot (pre-deceased 1987) and Isabella Wilmot (pre-deceased – 2002) in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. She was affectionately called Joannie by her husband and close friends and Aunt Joan to many relatives. Joan enjoyed a loving marriage with her dear husband Cecil for 68 years. Together they took pride in all their nieces, nephews, friends and anyone who wanted to excel especially in academics. She and her husband supported them whenever they could. They never advertised their kindness or commitment to helping others; however, their contributions were clear.

Her working life included roles at Bell Canada, Thibodeau Express and Metropolitan Hospital. After she retired, she and her husband opened a gift shop on Ottawa St. in Windsor ON.

Joan and Cecil faced many challenges throughout their lives that didn’t make them bitter but made them better. It was important to them to improve the lives of those less fortunate by caring for people in need. She loved being “where the people were.”

Joan enjoyed reading the local paper, doing puzzles and keeping up with sales pamphlets along with her trips to the casino. She along with her husband and their good friends Tom and Gloria Dorey loved going on various bus trips across Canada and the United States together.

No family gathering was complete without Joan attending the Mulder Family Reunion or Thanksgiving celebration. She had a strong interest in Black History and actively supported its causes. People will always remember her quick wit, bright smile and sparkly eyes.

If siblings were present in her life they would have surely shared a special bond like she did with her closest friends Tom and Gloria Dorey, Janet Burch, Jessie Dianne Smith and Wilbur Mulder.

The visitation will take place at Windsor Chapel Funeral Home – South Chapel, 3048 Dougall Avenue (519-253-7236) on Wednesday, October 8, 2025 from 2:00 to 4:00 p. m. and again from 6:00 to 8:00 p. m. The Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel on Thursday morning at 11:00 a. m., followed by interment at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.

Your choice of memorial donations would be appreciated for any charity you wish. Memories or condolences can be shared online at www. windsorchapel. com

God looked around His Garden; He found an empty space.

He then looked down upon this earth; He saw your tired face.

He put His arms around you; He lifted you to rest.

God’s garden must be beautiful for He only takes the best.

You knew that you were suffering; you knew that you were in pain You knew that you would never get well upon this earth again.

The road was getting rough; hills were hard to climb So He closed your weary eyelids; whispered peace be thine.

Your loss broke our hearts but you did not go alone

A part of us went with you when God called you home.
