When the Olympics were happening, some people were excited about the endless range of sports to watch on TV.

Others grumbled that there was nothing but sports on TV. Honestly, both sides had a point. We all enjoy supporting our own-Canadians during the Olympics, Ontarians in smaller events, and locally whenever we can.
If you live in Tillsonburg or nearby, have friends or family from there, played hockey there yourself or just know about it from Stompin’ Tom’s songs, you’re likely cheering for Jayden King and his Ontario curling team at The Montana’s Briar in Newfoundland.
I should mention my sister’s daughter is friends with Jayden’s mom so I feel a bit connected to this success-and I wear that connection proudly. Jayden and his teammates Dylan Niepage, Owen Henry, and Victor Pietranglo are making us all proud as they succeed together.

Though Jayden is actually from Courtland, he curls out of the Tillsonburg Curling Club. By now everyone knows their backgrounds. Despite our claims of connection to them, most people didn’t think this young team stood much chance against seasoned provincial teams like those who’ve been Olympic and world champions.
We need to recognize the hard work these guys have put in over the years to reach this level. They’re set to lead Canadian curling into the future with their talent.
As I write this after a week filled with ups and downs, the team has remained strong and confident by securing a place in the finals. No matter what happens over the weekend, they deserve our respect and support.

I do want to share a couple of things that annoy me amidst all this excitement.<p What does “tomorrow” mean for you? When someone tells me something will arrive tomorrow, I expect it to be here the day after today-not three or four days later. I've stayed home missing events and cancelling plans waiting for those “tomorrow” deliveries that never show up. It drives me crazy!
I’m also really disturbed by a recent commercial on TV that talks about how to use dangerous drugs safely. They give tips like letting people know where you’ll be using them, having someone with you while doing it, taking Narcan in case of an overdose, and starting with a low dose. I only saw it once and don’t know who sponsored it; while saving lives is crucial-it feels absurd to run an ad explaining how to get high safely! There must be better ways than this!
I do have some good news though: The snow is melting fast! While that may not be great for those worried about flooding issues; for many of us it means we’re getting closer to springtime! Everything looks dirty right now but soon enough everything will turn green again!
If you’re looking for something fun this spring-a concert by Men of the Deeps could be just what you need! They’ll perform at La Salette Historic Church on May 2 at 7:00 p. m. Tickets are going quickly but you can still grab some online at ticketscene. ca.
