Infrastructure Ontario (IO) and the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Gaming (MTCG) have granted a fixed price contract worth $1.04 billion to Ontario Science Partners. This agreement covers the design, construction, financing, and maintenance of a cutting-edge Ontario Science Centre facility.

The new Ontario Science Centre will be situated on the mainland at Ontario Place and will involve preserving the historic Cinesphere and Pod complex.

This new Ontario Science Centre is being developed using a Design Build Finance Maintain (DBFM) model. The DBFM model provides several advantages like transferring risks to the private sector throughout the project duration, ensuring cost and schedule reliability, improving design and construction efficiencies, as well as promoting innovation along with higher maintenance quality through performance-based service payments over a 30-year period.
Historically, projects using a DBFM procurement model have shown value for money savings ranging from 15% to 22% compared to those managed through traditional delivery methods.
