A dump truck collided with a highway overpass in Vaughan early Friday morning, resulting in road closures and an arrest, according to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).
Officers arrived at the scene of the crash in a southbound lane of Highway 400 at Langstaff Road around 2:35 a. m., as stated by the OPP in an emailed statement. A dump truck “with its box up [had] hit the collector side portion” of Langstaff Road Bridge, they noted.
A 32-year-old man from Brampton has been taken into custody and charged with careless driving and for operating an “overheight” vehicle, police reported.
The OPP mentioned that a Ministry of Transportation bridge inspector will evaluate the damage. There’s no word yet on when this assessment will take place.
The southbound lane of Highway 400 at Langstaff Road was reopened by 1:45 p. m. Friday after being temporarily closed following the incident, according to an OPP social media update.
Authorities said they have turned over the scene to the ministry for further investigation.
