After a successful 2024 Canadian Cross Country Championships, London is gearing up to elevate their efforts even more for the upcoming 2025 event on November 29-30.
Organized by the London Western Track & Field Club in collaboration with Tourism London and the City of London, the 2025 Canadian Cross Country Championships will take place at the Fanshawe golf course once again.
“Last year’s Canadian Cross Country Championships featured a first-class course for the competitors, excellent logistical and technical organization, dedicated and knowledgeable local volunteers, and a unique slate of activations for fans. Having learned from that first year of hosting, we can all expect another great weekend of racing in London,” said Athletics Canada CEO Mathieu Gentès.
“London was thrilled to host the Canadian Cross Country Championships last year. It was a unique experience, hosting a large-scale cross country event at a new venue. One of our strengths was the community members here in London who really helped put on a great event,” said Tourism London Sport Tourism Assistant Jeremy Hick.
Athletics Canada officially launched the event page for the 2025 Canadian Cross Country Championships today. The page provides athletes, coaches, and spectators with all key details, including registration information, accommodations, schedules, merchandise, and more!
London 2025
ACXC, as it’s known, will bring together over 1,300 athletes (from U16 to Masters), along with coaches and officials. It showcases Canada’s top runners competing for national champion titles. This year marks an exciting addition: ACXC will offer championships for Para athletes who will participate in a 4km race as well as a mixed relay race for Senior age categories (including both U20 and Senior Athletes).
The race course at Fanshawe Golf Course is mainly grass surface and designed to give competitors rolling terrain that’s challenging yet friendly for spectators.
“The feedback on the 2024 ACXC event was really positive. People really loved the course,” said London Western Track & Field Club manager Scott Mac Donald. “The introduction of the relay was an unknown but turned out to be very popular!”
The Championships will occur over two days. This year’s events will feature U16, U18, U20, Senior races along with Para national championship races, Canadian Masters Athletics national championships, a 1K Kids race, and the Canadian XC Classic 5K Presented by Back Roads Brews & Shoes-an event welcoming runners of all ages and abilities to challenge themselves on this National Championship Course.
Beyond The Course
Building on their popular program filled with entertainment options like food stands and other fan-friendly initiatives, ACXC25 organizers are committed to ensuring athletes’, coaches’, officials’, and fans’ experiences are top-notch.
“We had a stage where we had activations with local Olympians discussing their journeys as athletes during Paris Olympics moments along with unique interactions tailored for fans. We aimed to create excitement around this event that appeals not just to traditional cross-country enthusiasts but also those outside running circles. We generated hype connecting local community members to this event effectively last year so we’re eager to enhance that this time around based on what we learned from hosting in 2024,” Hick shared.
London: Sports Town
London boasts an impressive track record when it comes to hosting significant sporting events. Apart from these Canadian Cross Country Championships, it has hosted numerous Ontario Summer Games, multiple Tim Hortons Briers, World Championships in figure skating, sledge hockey, and field lacrosse among others.
“One of our greatest assets is truly our community members. In track and field and cross country especially, we enjoy having strong local sports communities. We have an excellent club network through the London Western Track and Field Club. Over recent years, we’ve successfully organized several large-scale events largely thanks to committed community members stepping up whenever needed,” Hick stated.
The Forest City’s collaboration with Athletics Canada continues forward as London’s Western Alumni Stadium is set to host the 2027 Canadian Track & Field Championships and the 2028 Bell Track & Field Trials.
