Is Tillsonburg on the verge of appearing in a popular Canadian television show or movie? The town officials are optimistic.

With the leadership of Cephas Panschow, Tillsonburg’s development commissioner, and Peter Raji, manager of innovation and strategic initiatives, the town has started a public consultation to explore becoming a film-friendly community.
A press release mentioned that this initiative aims to “strengthen local economic activity, attract visitors, and promote Tillsonburg’s unique character to film and television producers.”
In 2024, councillors approved a draft film policy with an agreement for staff to finish a public consultation before moving forward. The process starts with the Film-Friendly Community Survey available online until March 13.
The survey seeks opinions on potential advantages and considerations, interest in getting involved, and identifying possible filming locations – including residential, commercial, agricultural, and heritage sites.

“Tillsonburg has a great deal to offer the film industry, from our historic assets and scenic spaces to our supportive community and convenient location,” said Mayor Deb Gilvesy. “Exploring opportunities to attract film and television productions could create new revenue streams for places like Annandale House and Lake Lisgar while showcasing Tillsonburg to audiences far beyond our borders.”
The release highlighted that Ontario’s screen sector creates significant economic activity in communities of all sizes. It stated that film productions depend on local restaurants, accommodations, trades, and services; they also boost community visibility, spark visitor interest, and contribute to economic diversification.

“By preparing a clear film-friendly framework, Tillsonburg aims to position itself to welcome appropriately scaled productions while supporting both residents and businesses,” it continued.
Town staff will also host two public engagement sessions along with the survey: an in-person open house on February 24 from 4 to 6 p. m. at the Tillsonburg Community Centre Lion’s Den and a virtual information session on March 5 from 4 to 5 p. m. The meeting link will be posted on tillsonburg. ca and shared through the town’s social media channels closer to the date of the meeting.
After the consultation period concludes , staff will gather all feedback into a report which will be presented to town council for consideration.
