Toronto police report that a man who needed to be rescued from Lake Ontario has been arrested in relation to the stabbing of a woman. They stated that the suspect jumped into the lake while trying to escape after the attack.

Authorities responded to calls about a man who had stabbed a woman around 12:51 p. m. on Sunday at Bellevue Avenue and College Street, where they found a woman with injuries that were not life-threatening. She was taken to the hospital.

The suspect had fled but was found in the Lakeshore Boulevard and Remembrance Drive area where he tried to avoid arrest by jumping into Lake Ontario. The marine unit of Toronto police was called in to assist in rescuing him from the water.

Const. Laurie Mc Cann told that one officer involved in the rescue was also stabbed by the suspect.

The officer was taken to hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

Police say that both the suspect and the woman knew each other.

The investigation is still ongoing.
