A significant development has begun for the upcoming Costco in Ontario.
This week, demolition teams started removing existing buildings to clear the way for the new Costco in Oakville, located on Wyecroft Road near Burloak Drive and the QEW. The store will be close to the border between Oakville and Burlington and will take over an old plaza.
The eagerly awaited opening of this retail giant is projected for 2027, which is later than originally planned.
Reports suggest that the first idea of converting current stores into a Costco was abandoned in favor of constructing a brand-new building.
The site is set to feature 15,662.6 square meters of shopping space, with entrances from Wyecroft Road and Rio Can Boulevard leading into a parking area.
This new location will include all the usual departments like food, clothing, electronics, and more that people associate with Costco.
The new store will provide over 1,000 parking spots, including both surface and underground options. Customers can choose from 637 standard surface parking spaces or utilize one of the 306 underground spaces available.
There will also be 16 surface spaces designated for disabled individuals and an additional six underground spaces. Cyclists can park their bikes in one of the 16 bike racks that will be installed as well.
A gas station is also planned for the site at the northwest corner near where South Service Road West meets Rio Can Boulevard.
