Halton police took four teenagers into custody on Friday following an alleged attempt to rob a jewelry store at Oakville Place mall.

According to officers, around 6 p. m., four young males entered the shopping mall located at 240 Leighland Ave., dressed in dark clothing, masks, and gloves.

Security personnel at Oakville Place noticed them and intervened, suspecting a robbery was imminent.

The group left the mall on foot without any confrontation but were apprehended shortly afterward by Halton police.

Investigators reported that they discovered hammers, disguises, and a machete in their possession.

Following the investigation, charges were laid against 18-year-old Phoenix Cottle, along with two 15-year-old boys and one 14-year-old boy-all from Toronto-for offenses including robbery, possession of break-in tools, and carrying a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

The 14-year-old was released under an undertaking with a future court date set in Milton.

The two 15-year-olds remain in custody awaiting bail hearings in Milton.

The Youth Criminal Justice Act prevents the release of any young person’s name; hence the identities of those charged are not disclosed.

No injuries were reported among security staff or shoppers during this incident.

Detectives indicated that their investigation is ongoing but do not believe these four teens are connected to recent smash-and-grab robberies at Burlington jewelry stores.

If anyone has information regarding this case, they are urged to contact police at 905-825-4777 ext. 2216.

Tips can also be submitted anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or online at www. haltoncrimestoppers. ca.
