Simcoe County residents and businesses should note that recycling service changes are set to begin on Jan. 1, 2026, as part of Ontario’s shift to extended producer responsibility. What’s changing? Residential recycling: Residents who have previously received recycling collection from the county can expect their regular pickup day using the same carts. The only change is that Emterra will now be collecting on behalf of Circular Materials. Pickup times may vary compared to garbage and organics. For more details about what’s coming for residents, visit simcoe. ca/recyclingchange. Businesses and institutions: Businesses and institutions won’t receive curbside recycling collection anymore. Recycling carts left at the curb probably won’t be picked up, so those who want to remove their carts can reach out to the county directly. While garbage and organics collection will continue as before, it’s essential to separate recycling from garbage and dispose of it properly. Recycling drop-off: Residents and businesses can keep bringing their recycling to county waste drop-off sites; however, new tipping fees will start on Jan. 1. Learn more by clicking here. Simcoe County has strongly advocated for continued curbside recycling collection for small industrial, commercial, and institutional properties alongside many other municipalities. Despite these efforts, the province confirmed in a formal notification in October 2025 from the minister of the environment, conservation and parks that Circular Materials couldn’t accommodate this request. Please note: Due to recent weather conditions affecting collections, the county plans to resume missed recycling and garbage collections on Friday, Jan. 2, and Saturday, Jan. 3, but only in areas where they are aware of missed collections and where conditions have improved enough for safe pickups.
