(CNN) — Mass firings have begun at federal companies, with terminations of probationary workers underway on the Division of Schooling and the Small Enterprise Administration, federal workers and union sources advised CNN Wednesday.

The mass firings mark the primary from the Trump administration as President Donald Trump and Elon Musk’s Division of Authorities Effectivity goals to dramatically shrink the federal workforce. Till now, federal workers throughout all authorities companies had solely been positioned on paid administrative depart.

“The Agency finds, based on your performance, that you have not demonstrated that your further employment at the Agency would be in the public interest,” a kind letter despatched to Division of Schooling workers, obtained by CNN, informing them of their termination acknowledged.
