Waterloo regional police say two males from the Toronto space are going through charges in connection to a rip-off involving meat and presents playing cards at native grocery shops.

The scammers allegedly positioned fraudulent barcode stickers on prime of barcodes for meat at grocery shops in Kitchener, Cambridge and Waterloo.

Police launched a video that confirmed a number of situations of the boys selecting up meat and twiddling with it earlier than returning it to the cooler.

The meat was priced equally to present playing cards that the dupesters had ahold of, so when a consumer picked out some meat and introduced it to the counter for checkout, they didn’t know they have been paying to activate the present playing cards fairly than the meat they’d bought, in keeping with police.

They allegedly operated the rip-off at shops within the space a variety of instances between final Halloween and Jan. 29.

Police say the duo have been at a retailer close to Erb Avenue West and Fischer-Hallman Highway in Waterloo on Jan. 29 at round 6 p.m. when alert staff noticed the suspects putting barcodes on meat merchandise earlier than leaving the shop.

The workers then known as police and informed them the pair had left the scene in a black Ford F150.

Officers quickly pulled the automobile over and arrested the pair. A 38-year-old and a 30-year-old, each from York Area, have been charged with fraud beneath $5,000.

On Monday, police introduced additional charges in opposition to them, noting their alleged involvement in seven different incidents within the space.

They’re now going through a further seven charges of fraud beneath $5,000 in addition to a cost of theft beneath $5,000.
