The Franco-Ontarian neighborhood of L’Orignal, Ont., celebrated the bicentenary of its courthouse and previous jail Friday, with a ceremony to light up the historic constructing at evening.

The constructing first opened in 1825, the yr earlier than Bytown — the settlement that finally turned Ottawa — was based, making it the oldest constructing within the United Counties of Prescott and Russell.

It is usually the oldest jail and courthouse in Ontario, in line with Louise Bédard, the president of L’Orignal Previous Jail.

Landmark constructing
