Renfrew County Warden Peter Emon (centre), Chair of the Renfrew County 2023 Ontario Winter Video games, thanks Todd Nicholson, three-time Paralympic medallist in in sledge hockey, and Regyna Armonas, an Olympic volleyball participant who now calls Renfrew County residence, for lighting the cauldron to formally open the Video games through the ceremonies at Renfrew’s Ma-te-Manner Park on February 2.

RENFREW – The climate was chilly exterior however the spirt of the athletes warmed the hearts of everybody as greater than 1,000 athletes paraded into Ma-te-Manner Park in Renfrew for the Opening Ceremonies for the Renfrew County 2023 Ontario Winter Video games on Thursday, February 2. 

Though some sports activities received underway earlier within the day, this marked the official begin of the primary weekend of the Video games, which proceed till February 5, then resume for the second weekend from February 9-12; because the athletes’ and officers’ oaths had been taken and the cauldron was lit. Pachi the Ontario Winter Video games Mascot saved the athletes having enjoyable with a dance competitors whereas a DJ performed rocking tunes throughout breaks within the motion.

The Honourable Elizabeth Dowdeswell, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, introduced video greetings to the athletes and stated she was delighted to ship her finest needs because the 2023 Ontario Winter Video games start.

I salute the athletes for following your dreams and never giving up,” stated the Honourable Dowdeswell. “Your communities and the people of Ontario are so very proud of you and we can’t wait to see you in action. I hope that teamwork and community spirit will actually motivate each of to make your own contributions in your own ways to build a more resilient and sustainable future.”

The Honourable Neil Lumsden, Minister of Tourism, Tradition and Sport was unable to attend the opening however supplied these remarks.

“Our authorities is proud to help these Video games and our prime younger athletes who’ve labored so onerous and completed a lot to get right here,” the Minister stated. “Let’s additionally give a hand to the coaches, managers, officers, organizers, and the various volunteers throughout Renfrew County who will assist make this nice occasion a hit.”

Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke MPP John Yakabuski formally declared the video games open and thanked the a whole bunch of volunteers and the organizing committee who’ve been working for greater than two years to plan the video games.

Renfrew County Warden Peter Emon, Chair of the Video games Organizing Committee, advised the athletes everybody desires them to achieve success.

The video games are in full swing this weekend with the next sports activities getting underway: creative swimming (Dundonald Corridor, Petawawa), curling (Renfrew and Pembroke Curling Golf equipment), Fencing (Opeongo Excessive College, Cobden), Futsal (Dundonald Corridor, Petawawa), under-14 males’s hockey (Ma-te-Manner Exercise Centre, Renfrew), judo (St. Joseph’s Catholic Secondary College, Renfrew), ringette (Nick Smith Centre, Arnprior), and velocity skating (Bell Sensplex, Kanata).
