A polar vortex will plunge the GTA right into a deep freeze till Wednesday, Atmosphere Canada says.

“Be ready for very chilly circumstances. Temperatures could also be colder than these which have been seen the final a number of years,” the federal climate company stated on its web site.

Monday’s excessive is forecast to be -10 C, although it would really feel extra like -23 C as winds choose up later within the morning and afternoon.

Tuesday may show to be the coldest day of the winter, with a excessive of -12 C and windchill values approaching -26. 

Temperatures will rise considerably on Wednesday, in keeping with Atmosphere Canada, earlier than returning to extra seasonal ranges by Thursday.

“Bear in mind frostbite can develop in minutes on uncovered pores and skin. Hold dry to remain hotter,” the climate company stated.

The Metropolis of Toronto has opened seven warming centres and dispatched further homelessness outreach staff to encourage folks to come back in from the chilly.

The warming centres are situated at:

Cecil Neighborhood Centre, 58 Cecil St. (east of Spadina Avenue, south of Faculty Road). Jimmie Simpson Recreation Centre, 870 Queen St. E. (east of Broadview Avenue, north of Queen Road). 136 Spadina Rd. (south of Dupont Road). 81 Elizabeth St. (west of Bay Road, south of Dundas Road W.). 12 Holmes Ave. (off of Yonge Road, south of Finch Avenue E.). 885 Scarborough Golf Membership Rd. (east of Markham Highway, south of Ellesmere Highway). Metro Corridor, 55 John St. (north of Wellington Road W.).
