On Wednesday evening metropolis councillors authorised a pilot program permitting for Flying Monkeys Craft Brewery, a restaurant downtown, to function a patio all through the winter months. Councillor Craig Nixon, who represents the downtown core, says it got here to be as the results of a request by the enterprise.

“This happened as a request and which is principally a results of our winters definitely aren’t what they was once,” Nixon stated throughout Wednesday’s metropolis council assembly. “We’re taking a look at one institution to place out just a few tables, not definitely what we usually have within the summertime, and see the way it goes, see how the general public reacts to it and see what the demand is.”

The patio might be smaller in scale than what clients are accustomed to in the course of the Spring and Summer season season, with a restrict of being 8 toes from the constructing. Nixon stated the unique thought was to allow winter patios in any respect institutions alongside Dunlop Road, nonetheless some wouldn’t have the ability to facilitate as a result of parking logistics.

“It is clearly weather-related,” Nixon stated. “So if it seems the winter season is heat with little snow then I am positive they will be used…I am positive lots of people will admire them and if the climate’s horrible then it is actually not a problem as a result of folks aren’t going to be sitting on the market in any case!”

This system handed with one other stipulation to permit for 2 further companies to open a smaller patio as of March 15.

“They’re actually not till after St. Patrick’s Day,” Nixon stated. “I believe they’re simply going to attend and see how the pilot works out for the primary few months.”

The movement handed with little debate, with many councillors applauding the concept as they sought clarification on sure parts of the mission.

“I am in all help of getting winter patios as a result of I have been to them and they’re plenty of enjoyable and they’re very nice and really Canadian,” Councillor Amy Courser stated in the course of the assembly.
