On Tuesday, Americans will cast their votes in midterm elections that will shape Congress for the last two years of President Donald Trump’s second term.
As Democrats aim to reclaim control of both chambers, redistricting might play a key role in shifting the balance of power in Washington.
According to Cook Political Report, Democrats need to win just one or two out of 435 seats in the House of Representatives to regain a majority. Cook has identified 21 races across the country as “toss-ups”; 16 held by Republicans and five by Democrats.
While there’s data suggesting possible gains for Democrats, CNN points out that it’s rare for both the House and Senate to change hands in the same election cycle. The last time was back in 2006 during the Blue Wave against the Iraq War.
Historically, the party holding the presidency tends to lose seats during midterms-a trend observed under both Democratic and Republican administrations.

While issues like affordability and inflation dominate campaigns, U. S. foreign policy-especially relations with Israel and tensions with Iran-has increasingly influenced domestic discussions.
Ahead of Election Day, here are The Jerusalem Post’s highlighted races in the House of Representatives worth watching.

Florida’s 25th Congressional District: Jared Moskowitz (D) v Scott Singer (R)
Democratic incumbent Jared Moskowitz is up against Republican Scott Singer, former mayor of Boca Raton, in a tight race following Florida’s recent redistricting efforts.
The redesigned district runs along South Florida’s Atlantic coast from Palm Beach County down to Miami Beach. Redistricting has made this area more competitive for Republicans; about 25% of residents identify as Jewish according to demographic insights from The Miami Herald and Sun Sentinel.
Singer has received an endorsement from the Republican Jewish Coalition (RJC), while Moskowitz is supported by AIPAC.
Moskowitz focuses on safeguarding programs like Medicare and SNAP benefits while protecting the Affordable Care Act. On his part, Singer promotes lower taxes and reduced government spending as solutions to inflation concerns.
“Obviously we’d like to see prices come down; some items have come down. Government can do two things: lower taxes and cut spending,” Singer mentioned during an October 27 candidate forum.
Both candidates express strong support for Israel; they dismiss allegations regarding genocide occurring in Gaza and oppose linking U. S military aid based on conditions set forth by either party.
They also backed Israel’s strikes against Iranian facilities back in 2025 although Moskowitz has since urged an end to America’s conflict with Iran.
