[ad_1]Elementary School Consultants Carmela Biundo and Evelin Niemiec have played a key role in shaping the future of Catholic family life education in Ontario. They contributed their knowledge to create "Blessed and Beloved," an updated resource aimed at students in Grades 4 to 6.This resource is designed to support family life education in Ontario Catholic schools, making Catholic teachings accessible, relevant, and meaningful for today's students while staying true to the faith and values of the Catholic Church. Approved by the Assembly of Catholic Bishops of Ontario alongside the Institute for Catholic Education, these new resources aim to assist educators in leading students through essential discussions about relationships, personal growth, dignity, and faith. For many years, the earlier resource, "Fully Alive," was a cornerstone for family life education in Ontario's Catholic schools. Given the diverse experiences and family structures of students today, it became important to ensure that classroom materials reflect their lives. Niemiec stated,"One of the most important things to our students when they walk through the doors of our schools is their family," said Biundo. "'Blessed and Beloved' recognizes, celebrates, and honours the family in a way that is meaningful and relatable to students and their lived experiences while remaining rooted in and upholding the teachings of the Catholic faith on family, love, relationships, and human dignity." "It provides an opportunity for students to see their own experiences reflected in their learning while deepening their understanding of family as a gift, a source of belonging, and a place where faith, love, and compassion are nurtured." By acknowledging each family's uniqueness helps students connect their lives with classroom discussions and develop empathy towards others' experiences. Niemiec added. The updated approach also focuses on age-appropriate learning so that concepts evolve as students mature in understanding themselves, their relationships, and their faith. "I love this resource because it's relatable to children. They are going to look at these pictures read these stories and they will see themselves here." Biundo and Niemiec worked together to align expectations with established units while proposing lesson themes along with Scripture passages prayers saints parables stories activities as well as age-appropriate applications aimed at enhancing student learning. At the end of each unit students receive a "Holy Habit" that encourages them to think about how they can integrate lessons into their everyday lives noted Biundo. "I think it is the most important part. It's not just learning information but how does it apply to me? How can I become more like Christ? How can I encourage others to do the same?" This updated curriculum connects faith with daily experiences helping students put Catholic values into action fostering compassion respect along with a deeper sense of belonging both inside as well as outside classrooms.[ad_2]Source link
