The Ontario Nurses Association (ONA), representing 68,000 nurses and health-care professionals, has reached out to Doug Ford’s government for clarification after St. Joseph’s Health Care announced it would be cutting over 120 registered nursing positions at the Finch Family Mental Health Care Building in London. LFP reporter Brian Williams looks into the details:
WHAT’S GOING ON?
ONA expressed its concerns on Oct. 16 when the union revealed that St. Joseph’s was eliminating more than 120 RN positions. On that same day, hospital officials provided a statement saying the “exact numbers will be determined as we work with our union partners to reduce actual job loss through vacancies.”
Officials from St. Joseph’s mentioned they are creating 82 new full-time and 24 part-time direct care roles, including registered practical nurses, while also cutting 83 full-time and 31 part-time registered nursing jobs, adding, “no official layoff notices have been issued to individual RNs.”
