The Waterloo Regional Police report that they dealt with eight impaired driving incidents within a little over 12 hours.

Initially, officers were dispatched to the area of Elgin Street North and Winter Avenue for a two-car accident on Sept. 11, just before 4 p. m. The crash involved a Chevrolet Cruze and a Honda Civic, with the driver of the Honda sustaining non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Chevrolet Cruze, a 42-year-old woman from Cambridge, is now facing charges for:

Operation While Impaired  Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose  Unauthorized Possession of a Weapon  Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking

Later on, during the early hours of Sept. 12, police received calls about a Mazda Sedan that was swerving and driving against traffic. Officials reported that this vehicle was spotted on Gingerich Road in Baden before officers found it in New Hamburg.

As they attempted to pull over the vehicle, the Mazda reversed into a police cruiser causing minor damage. A 48-year-old woman from Wilmot Township was identified as the driver and is now charged with:

Operation While Impaired  Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration  Dangerous Operation

According to statements from the Waterloo Regional Police Service, additional arrests were made for impaired driving near Cambridge’s Riverside Park, Kitchener’s Pioneer Park, and Uptown Waterloo. They noted that there were 14 charges filed between Sept. 11 at 1 p. m., and Sept. 12 at 3 a. m., related to impaired incidents.

Waterloo Regional Police urge community members to call 9-1-1 right away if they suspect someone is driving while impaired.
