Tonight, the four main candidates for mayor in Mississauga – including fierce opponents Carolyn Parrish and Bonnie Crombie – will face off one last time on stage before voters head to the polls on Oct. 26.
In their previous debate on Oct. 1, Parrish, the current mayor, and her predecessor Crombie exchanged heated words during a lively discussion about key issues.
Joining Parrish and Crombie at Christ First United Church on Lakeshore Road West this Thursday night are city councillors Alvin Tedjo (Ward 2) and Dipika Damerla (Ward 7), making this the final debate featuring these top four candidates.
The event, organized by the Town of Port Credit Association, Lakeview Ratepayers Association, Port Credit Legion, and Port Credit Community Foundation, kicks off at 7 p. m.
Parrish, Crombie, Tedjo, Damerla along with ten other candidates are competing to become Mississauga’s next mayor. Those who missed last week’s record-breaking advance polling will have their chance to vote on Oct. 26.
Parrish won a byelection in June 2024 to take over from Crombie as mayor, leading up to an intense municipal election campaign ahead of 2026.
Crombie had previously defeated Parrish in a September 2011 byelection for the Ward 5 council seat with a tally of 2,479 votes to Parrish’s 2,239 votes. After that election, Parrish became councillor in that ward when Crombie succeeded Hazel Mc Callion as mayor in 2014.
Crombie later left her position as mayor in January 2024 to lead the Ontario Liberal Party and challenge Premier Doug Ford.
The four leading candidates first came together for a debate on Sept. 25 at Sheridan College’s Hazel Mc Callion Campus located in downtown Mississauga.
