The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in the Upper Ottawa Valley are joining a national traffic safety initiative during the Thanksgiving weekend.
This four-day effort, called Operation Impact, kicks off on Friday and will focus on reducing aggressive, distracted, and impaired driving, as well as promoting seatbelt use.
“Over the long weekend.. officers will be highly visible supporting the campaign.. ensuring drivers are doing their part to keep themselves, their passengers and those with whom they share the road safe,” Upper Ottawa Valley OPP said in a news release.
“Motorists are advised to cut the distractions, buckle up, obey the posted speed limits and arrive alive – drive sober, in order to make this holiday weekend a safe one for all road users.”
The detachment covers a large area west of Ottawa including the communities of Pembroke and Petawawa.
The national campaign is led by the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police.
