The Town of Essex has wrapped up an investigation regarding a breach of the voters’ list that occurred last week.
Concerns emerged last Thursday when mayoral candidate Trevor Menard claimed he learned that some details from the list were shared with unauthorized individuals.
Menard stated that home addresses of his campaign supporters were posted on social media.
After looking into the matter, the town confirmed that information about 64 residents was indeed shared.
It reported that this information was gathered by a candidate’s campaign team through field observations and notes. The candidate addressed the issue with the person who made the disclosure.
The election campaign team for that candidate will reach out to all affected residents by the end of this week.
“The Town understands that the candidate and their election campaign team have introduced measures to prevent a future unauthorized disclosure,” said a release from the Town of Essex.
Incumbent mayoral candidate Sherry Bondy later clarified that the voters list wasn’t compromised and mentioned that the volunteer involved was let go.
