Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and Ottawa police worked together during two late-night operations that resulted in numerous speeding charges and other violations.
The enforcement took place on July 17 and 18, focusing on unsafe driving practices on Ottawa’s streets. Various units participated in the evenings, including an OPP airplane that monitored drivers identified by officers on the ground.
In total, 63 charges were issued during the operation, which included:
11 stunt driving charges 35 speeding charges five driving while under suspension charges two no insurance charges 10 additional traffic-related charges
Officers recorded several vehicles traveling at excessive speeds, including two that were close to doubling the speed limit in a 100 km/h zone.
Drivers were observed going:
172 km/h in a posted 60 km/h zone 186 km/h in a posted 100 km/h zone 161 km/h in a posted 100 km/h zone 186 km/h in a posted 100 km/h zone

Stricter Charges from Ottawa OPP
There have been multiple cases of drivers exceeding the threshold for stunt driving on Ottawa roads. In some instances, police have caught repeat offenders driving at speeds twice the limit. Due to this trend, OPP Constable Michael Fathi stated that police have consulted with the Crown in Ottawa and agreed that any speeds over 180 km/h can result in dangerous driving charges being laid. “We’re trying to get the message out to people that you’re not facing just highway traffic charges, but you could now be facing a criminal code charge,” he said.
