“Please be advised that the earlier reported issue with the 9-1-1 network HAS BEEN RESOLVED,” Constable Anthony Colangeli, Media Relations Officer with Kingston Police, said in an email.
Residents can now go back to using the regular 911 number for emergencies.
The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) also stated that the 911 services have been “largely stabilized.”
“The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is aware that the 9-1-1 system has largely stabilized. All OPP Provincial Communications Centres across the province are once again receiving and processing 9-1-1 calls,” the OPP said in a press release issued at 11 a. m. on Thursday, Sept. 17, 2026.
“While the 9-1-1 system appears to be largely restored, it is possible that intermittent disruptions may still exist. If you are unable to reach the OPP by dialing 9-1-1, please call the OPP non-emergency line at 1-888-310-1122. Do not call 9-1-1 to test the system or confirm if it works for you.”
The provincial police expressed gratitude to phone network providers for “expediting the restoration” of the 911 system.
The reason behind these network outages hasn’t been shared yet. Kingstonist has asked OPP corporate offices for more details regarding these issues.

Earlier today, police agencies started reporting that there were intermittent outages affecting the 911 service across Ontario.
At around 5:30 a. m. on Thursday, Sept. 17, 2026, both Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and Kingston Police released statements informing everyone about this outage.
No specifics about why it happened or when it would be fixed were given.
“Members of the public requiring emergency police response are urged to call the OPP non-emergency line at 1-888-310-1122, which remains fully operational,” the OPP said in their release.
“Members of the public should not call 9-1-1 for information, updates, or to test the phone line if they are not in an emergency situation.”
Kingston Police issued a similar message:
“The public is urged to call the Kingston Police non-emergency line at 613-549-4660, which remains in service if they are unable to call 9 -1 -1 and require emergency police services,” stated local law enforcement.
Both agencies confirmed they continue responding to calls during this outage and will share updates as soon as they can.
