This weekend, Waterloo region and Guelph may experience heavy rainfall, with some areas potentially receiving over 50 mm.
Environment Canada has released a special weather statement for both regions, indicating that showers and thunderstorms moving through southwestern Ontario will arrive this afternoon.
Some locations might see multiple rounds of rain, with up to 40 mm falling within an hour.
“Rainfall amounts will be highly variable across the region. There remains considerable uncertainty as to exactly which areas will receive the highest rainfall amounts,” the statement says.
More showers are anticipated into Sunday. Environment Canada warns that the rain could cause water accumulation on roads and in low-lying areas. Drivers should avoid traveling through flooded streets and stay alert for possible washouts near rivers and creeks.
