Famous Faces Enjoy Treats in Thunder Bay

A coffee shop in Thunder Bay, Ont. was bustling on Thursday with two well-known Canadians.

Prime Minister Mark Carney and musician Bryan Adams were in town for different events but took some time to visit local spots together.

One of their stops was at The Persian Man, where they indulged in Thunder Bay’s famous pink-frosted treats, known as persians.

For Danny Nucci, vice president of Bennett’s Bakery Ltd., and The Persian Man, it was a unique experience.

“It was something different,” he shared in an interview with on Thursday.

“I’ve had politicians here regularly, whether from Conservatives or New Democrats, but I’ve never had a Prime Minister or Bryan Adams here.”

“I’ve had other stars come by too, but not Bryan Adams. So it was definitely something out of the ordinary,” he said. “How’s that?”

Nucci mentioned that he got wind of the visit several days prior.. and while it was meant to be kept quiet, word somehow spread.

“It was supposed to have been hush hush. But every time you turned around, there was always somebody coming up to me saying, ‘Oh yeah, I hear Mark Carney and Bryan Adams are coming here on Thursday,” he explained.

Those who weren’t aware of the secret were surprised to see the duo together at the busy café, according to Nucci, who added that the Prime Minister took time to chat and snap photos with customers and staff.

Carney visited Thunder Bay on Thursday to announce funding for new Via Rail cars set to be built in Canada. Meanwhile, Adams had a concert scheduled for later that night at the Thunder Bay Community Auditorium.

The two were also seen enjoying views and taking selfies at Thunder Bay’s Terry Fox Monument on Thursday.

“This morning a couple of patriotic Canadians got together to honour another great Canadian – Terry Fox,” posted Thunder Bay-Rainy River MP Marcus Powlowski on Facebook.

Alongside several photos featuring the Prime Minister with the famous rocker, Powlowski also wrote “For those who don’t recognize the other guy – it is Bryan Adams.”
