New Costco Opening Soon in Oakville

For a long time, residents have been talking about the possibility of a new Costco in their area.

Now, one southern Ontario community finally has a sign. An actual sign.

An “Opening Soon” sign has popped up at the future Costco site on Wyecroft Road near Burloak Drive in Oakville, right by the Burlington border. This gives a clear indication that the long-awaited warehouse is actually happening.

While the sign is just a small addition to an already active construction site, it signifies a major milestone for those who have been eagerly anticipating Oakville’s first Costco.

And judging by online reactions, people are paying attention.

Comments on social media after the sign went up this week ranged from joy about having a nearby Costco to jokes about parking challenges, traffic issues, and wondering just how long “soon” might take.

“Start the car!!” one person exclaimed.

Another joked that “soon” could mean late next year, while others simply wanted to know when they could start shopping there.

For many locals, it makes perfect sense. The new store could ease some of the crowding at the Burlington location and save others from having to drive all the way to Mississauga for their shopping needs.

One commenter mentioned they were tired of driving to those cities and were pleased that this new location will feature a gas station as well.

This project has been anticipated for quite some time now.

Plans show that Costco will take over part of the existing Rio Can Centre Burloak, occupying around 15,662 square metres. The development will include over 1,000 parking spaces-some underground-and feature its own standalone gas station as well.

The gas station is set to be located near South Service Road West and Rio Can Boulevard.

The project recently got final site plan approval from Oakville officials; demolition of older sections of the plaza is done. Construction and groundwork are now in progress as they move into this next phase of development.

Right now, they’re aiming for Costco’s opening in fall 2027.

That means shoppers still have some waiting ahead of them despite all this excitement around an “Opening Soon” sign.

The new warehouse in Oakville is also part of a broader expansion effort happening throughout Ontario.

Costco is working on several other locations across Ontario including stores in Windsor, Halton Hills, Caledon and Wasaga Beach. The projects in Oakville and Halton Hills-and possibly Caledon-will bring multiple new warehouses within reach for folks living across western GTA.

The Halton Hills store will primarily cater to Milton residents and might open sometime in 2027 as well. Meanwhile , the proposed Caledon location is planned near Mayfield Road and Creditview Road , just north of Brampton. However , this project remains at an earlier stage than others.

For residents of Oakville and Burlington though , the wait has officially entered a new chapter.

There are construction crews actively working on-site now.

And more importantly , there’s now a sign indicating what’s coming soon.

Opening soon.

Well , eventually.
