UPDATE: Celebration of Life for Maria White
A Celebration of Life for Maria White will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2026 from 12:30 p. m. to 3:30 p. m. at the Onaping Falls Legion, Branch 503.
Location: Onaping Falls Legion (Branch 503), 3 St. James St., Onaping, ON
Family and friends are invited to come together, share stories, and celebrate Maria’s life. Lunch will be provided by the Ladies’ Auxiliaries.
Maria Eugenia White (née Vaz), born on October 22, 1952, in Valencia, Portugal, passed away peacefully on May 13, 2026, at her home in Willow Beach, Ontario.
Maria moved to Canada when she was just five years old and grew up in Dowling, Ontario. In 1972, she married Malcolm “Chummy” White and enjoyed many wonderful years living in Onaping, Ontario. Her home radiated warmth and love-truly reflecting her caring nature and commitment to family and friends.
Maria took great pleasure in tending her many gardens and had a special fondness for Elvis Presley’s music. She’ll be remembered for her love of dancing, her lively spirit, and the joy that filled the air with her laughter.
She was preceded in death by her husband Malcolm White (2011) as well as her parents Joaquim “Jack” (2007) and Azelia (2012, née Lima) Vaz and her brother John Vaz (2007). She is survived by her beloved daughter Loretta White who stood faithfully by her side during her last moments. Maria also leaves behind her brother Jack Vaz Jr. (Dowling), sister-in-law Colleen Vaz (Dowling, née Bell), Rosa Vaz along with cherished nieces and nephew-Natalie Vaz, Ryan Sheehey, Mikayla and Taylore Vaz. Maria valued her extended family; William and Jean White (predeceased), Jack and Marion White (John predeceased), Wendy and Linda; Bill predeceased; Madeleine White (Dwayne, Gloria and Paul); Allen and Barbara White (Bill and Mark).
Maria’s passing signifies the end of an important chapter but carries forward a legacy of love that will stay alive in the hearts of those who knew her well. She left us peacefully while surrounded by the comforting presence of Loretta-a testament to their close bond.
No funeral service will take place; however, those who loved Maria will have an opportunity to celebrate her life at a later gathering where they can honor her memory together.
Her life showcased the strength found within family connections as well as an openness to new experiences. The story of Maria White is one filled with love that leaves a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Loretta wishes to express deep gratitude to Gemma, Rosie, and Thelma-Maria’s dedicated PSWs-who became like family over time. With your exceptional care at home each day ensured that Maria felt comfortable, safe, and happy. Loretta will always appreciate your commitment, kindness, and support.
Loretta also extends heartfelt thanks to all family, friends, and colleagues for their unwavering love, e encouragement, and support throughout this very difficult time. Their kindness has been incredibly comforting which she truly appreciates.
