Avril Mary Goodwin (née Hobley), who was born in 1949, passed away on August 14, 2026, in Thunder Bay, Ontario.
She grew up in Port Arthur and spent her childhood in Thunder Bay. Throughout her life, Avril lived in several parts of Western Canada, including Manitoba, Alberta, and Saskatchewan. She raised her two daughters in Estevan, Saskatchewan, before returning to her roots in Thunder Bay.
Avril was ahead of the curve in many ways. Long before yoga became popular, she held classes from her home basement for just $2 a session and later traveled around southeastern Saskatchewan to teach others. She had a passion for health and wellness that lasted her whole life; she enjoyed long walks, dancing, and traveling and took up tai chi as she got older.
Resourceful and self-sufficient, Avril knew how to make the most out of what she had. She introduced books, music, dance, and culture into her daughters’ lives while generously volunteering her time to support others in her community.
Avril is survived by her daughters Amanda Goodwin and Shelly Goodwin along with her grandchildren Autumn and Barclay Kay.
She’ll be remembered for her independence, curiosity, generosity, and unique spirit-living life very much on her own terms.
