Search and rescue teams report that they have located a plane in the Kawartha Lakes region, where a pilot is thought to be missing after flying there last week.

In a social media update on Monday, the Trenton Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC), which oversees air and marine search and rescue efforts across Ontario, announced that a plane was discovered on Wolf Lake in Queen Elizabeth II Provincial Park. This location is roughly a 45-minute drive north of the Kawartha Lakes municipality.

The case has now been handed over to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) as a missing person’s investigation, according to the JRCC’s announcement. They did not clarify if the plane belonged to the missing pilot, identified by police as David, who is 73 years old.

On Saturday, Durham police shared on X that David took off from Oshawa Airport at 8:30 a. m. Friday and was due back by 9:30 a. m.

Authorities also mentioned that he typically flies in an area south of Kawartha Lakes township and north of Lake Scugog.

Durham Regional Police provided a picture of the plane. (Submitted by Durham Regional Police)

The Ontario Provincial Police previously described the aircraft as a small blue homemade model with “FOFZ” marked on its tail.

David is characterized by police as an experienced pilot standing five feet seven inches tall with a slim frame. He has black grey hair along with a moustache.
