The events in Woodstock, Ingersoll, and Tillsonburg have raised over $81,000 combined.

OXFORD COUNTY – We’re just a few weeks away from the Coldest Night of the Year (CNOY).

It’s set for Saturday, February 22nd, and 208 communities across Canada will be gathering funds for organizations that assist people facing pain, hunger, and homelessness.

As of noon today, the Woodstock campaign has brought in over $120,700 for Operation Sharing, placing it as the 26th most successful campaign in the nation.

Tim Dukes, Executive Director of Operation Sharing, mentions that all funds raised will be put to good use.

“All of our programs, the meal program and everything, that all comes from donations. With Coldest Night of the Year being our only big fundraiser of an entire year, it’s very vital to our program and what we are trying to do.”

The Woodstock campaign has achieved 27 percent of its $140,000 fundraising goal so far.

The events in Tillsonburg and Ingersoll will benefit United Way Oxford. Executive Director Kelly Gilson explains that the organization covers costs for transitional housing facilities in those areas.

“The United Way covers all of the operating costs from the mortgage all the way through to the utilities, the internet, lawn maintenance, and also the staffing.”

Both towns have set a goal to raise $60,000 each. The Ingersoll event was almost there at 96 percent with over $57,600 collected this afternoon; it’s currently ranked as the 36th most successful event in Canada.

The Tillsonburg event has gathered 66 percent of its fundraising target with more than $39,800 raised. This makes it rank as the 84th most successful event nationwide.

Overall in these three communities combined, over 500 individuals have signed up to take part in outdoor walks on February 22nd.
