With heavy hearts, we share the news of Dan Chikane’s unexpected passing at 2:42 am on Tuesday, June 16, 2026 at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on May 16, 1955.
Dan is survived by his wife Angela (Quequish); children Anna Marie (Gary) Kakekayash and Lisa (Desmond) Winters; his caregiver and granddaughter Jessilyn Winters; grandchildren Kendra Quequish, Bentley (Felicia) Kakekayash, Aaron Kakekayash, Wesley Patawanick, Jayson Winters (Kylie Fiddler), Jasmine Winters, Rachelle Mc Kay, Kanina Anderson and Cheyanne Mc Kay; adopted grandchildren David, Jonathan, Stephen, Susanna and Joshua; great-grandchildren Maurice, Shayden, Benny, Lavon, Angelina, Myah, Roger, Dreher, Kyle, Tarynn and Kiana. He also leaves behind his sisters Madeline and Sandra Chikane; his aunt Madeline Grey of Cat Lake; aunts and uncles Ina Williams, Rebecca Jeremiah and Isaac Sakakeep along with many nieces, nephews cousins and extended family.
He was predeceased by his parents Isaiah Chikane and Rhoda (Tait) Chikane; his dear sons Kris Maurice Chikane and Noel Chikane; sister Christina (Chikane) Benson as well as brothers Timothy Wayne Chikane Charles Chikane and Don Chikane; grandparents Noah Chikane and Eliza (Kakekayash) Chikane Oombash Abraham Tait Sarah Jane (Stoney) Tait Sakakeep Lazarus Sakakeep; aunts Margaret Ashmugeesha Joyce Wesley Norah Jane Benson uncles Samuel Chikane Samson Chikane Isaac Chikane Morris Chikane mother-in-law Elizabeth Quequish father-in-law Japin Quequish along with many other close family members.

A Wake Service for Dan will be held in Thunder Bay on Wednesday June 17 2026 from 9:00 am until 11:00 am in the WESTFORT CHAPEL located at 420 West Gore Street at James officiated by Pastor Colin Kanate.
Dan will then be taken home to North Caribou Lake First Nation. The Funeral Service is set to take place at the Weagamow Lake Evangelical Fellowship Church on Friday June 19th at 11:00 am officiated by Pastor Jerry Quequish with Gilbert Quequish serving as Emcee. Burial will follow in the Weagamow Lake Community Cemetery. A Wake will be held Thursday evening in the Church.
